Ubuntu 9.10 Features And Thoughts

Ubuntu 9.10 is just around the corner and for the most part, it seems that things are shaping up pretty well. The one thing that has most people talking however, is that Pidgin is being replaced by Empathy by default. A move that is going to cheese off a lot of Pidgin users.
I am not totally clear on the reasoning behind this move, but I suspect it has to do with Empathy being able to potentially offer more down the road. Again, totally speculating here.
One thing I do like is that we will have yet another audio/video option for Ubuntu. Used to use Ekiga, but I never got it working in Ubuntu 9.04 - prefer using Skype these days anyways. So if Empathy can give me a working video/audio chat option that is compatible with my friends using Gtalk, then I might be interested in this after all.
