Is This The Summer Of Linux?

There can be little doubt that while people may not consider this to be the year of desktop Linux, it is the summer of Linux overall. Just look at the events that have taken place in the Linux universe thus far.

Red Hat becoming a member of the S&P 500 on the stock market. This is a huge deal from a financial perspective, as it sort of kills the notion that there is no profit in providing services around Linux. Back on the server front, Linux made another score as the USPS has moved from their previous package tracking system to one powered by FoSS.

And finally, not that this is not a big deal…one second boot times Linux powered devices. To some, this may not seem like a big deal. But when you consider where this can lead to next, I think it is something to be watched as time passes.
