Chrome OS Good For Linux?

Despite having a shiny Google OS wrapper, Chrome OS will be at best, yet another Linux distro. Perhaps in some ways, bearing a striking resemblance to gOS that also relies heavily on Google Web Apps to get things moving for its users.

This article is demonstrating something valid that I many people are losing sight of. Using Google as the PR machine that it is, desktop Linux distributions everywhere will finally be able to show off what they have to offer as non-Linux users rush to the Web to discover what this Chrome OS is all about. Any level of research is going to lead these individuals to other distros.

So is there any real danger of Chrome OS hurting adoption rates with other Linux distributions? Not too likely. Most people who select one distro over another are doing so for one of two reasons - hardware support or features/layout. Even though the kernel is what provides the hardware support for Linux distributions, there are a number of altered kernel releases using individual changes that put emphasis on some hardware over others. And as for features/layout, it is highly possible that the Chrome OS is going to be a total flop should the layout be as bad as I suspect that it will be.
