Netbooks Now - Time To Buy?

As the prices continue to drop on netbooks, it has some people wondering if the prices will end up falling even further? Still, with so many netbooks running specs that are just too low for daily use, the charge remains that many distros can run on them no problem. Sure, unless you use YouTube or anything else that is not viewing a website from 1999.
Look, netbook or notebook, get as many hardware upgrades as possible when shooting for the low end. While you might not really need the next Dual-core system with four GBs of RAM, it would also be cool to be able to edit documents without it taking all day for them to load.
Should you steer clear of the VIA setups? For me, I break it down this way. Never buy from an OEM unless they are also providing you with aftermarket support. If this is too much trouble, then you need to think the hardware you are about to select.

I will likely never buy a netbook unless I can get one for $50 max.
I still say they’re underpowered computers.

I think you’ll find a lot of the Netbooks around right now are perfectly capable of running Youtube, and a lot of other things besides.
I had a 701 watching YT vids happily, with a 2Gb RAM upgrade.

I own a netbook running Windows XP. One of the things that keeps me from using it more is the small screen size (10.1″) as well as the somewhat related issue of the screen resolution (1064×600). It’s rather annoying when the browser’s title, menu and toolbars take up nearly 50% of the screen. And I don’t like having to run my browser in full-screen mode all the time. There are definite drawbacks to netbooks in general, at least for now, but I don’t think horsepower is one of them, as long as you know its capabilities going into it.

I have a desktop that is my real computer.
I have a NetBook that i carry with me around the house, school and around town for word processing and minor/easy internet usage. it is a computer for convenience and ease, but not a real computer.

I’m quite happy with my Dell Inspiron 3500 and IBM ThinkPad T23 doing those duties. And if I need more power (like a PII-300 can’t shove around Office 2000…..) I can use my Gateway CX210X. Right now, just can’t see paying 300+ for what I can do already for free. Old laptops are out there, and still have plenty of life in them. With an old laptop, you get a decent keyboard, and a screen that doesn’t make you squint. Even the 3500 runs a 14 inch screen. I’ll take the “real computer,” thanks.

I just use my MacBook Pro, should I need to use a computer at all.
Otherwise, my iPhone 3GS is my main blogging, and note-taking platform. While the lack of tactile feedback makes it hard, if I need to quickly browse the web, take a note, record something, or even Tweet, I have my iPhone, which is smaller and quicker than activating a netbook.
