GPL To Go?

Sometimes people read too much into numbers when in truth, it is they that are in many ways irrelevant. As you can see in this article, Matt Asay believes that the GPL is losing ground as web based software seems to use other open source licenses. Well, this is the way the numbers presented in this article seem to present things, that is.
Honestly, I am not an expert in licensing or even the advantages of using one open source license over another. But I do know that it is more than possible to both make money with the a GPL licensed piece of software, especially if it is a web based app.
So at the end of the day, I really do not see a threat to the GPL either on Web apps or in the localized world. It’s still here, despite the numbers giving a completely different impression. But hey, I am open to debate. Do you see the GPL disappearing on the network-delivered software front?

I’ve seen alot of those other license’s popping up. But I’ve only seen maybe a couple of different software groups using each one. And their modified licenses seem to drift away from the meaning of open-source. The GPL still has quite the number of Software developer groups still working full speed ahead creating the very software thats the heart of Linux as we know it today. No matter what business you might find yourself trend-watching in. You will always see ups and downs. The good downs always bounce back. Some people can’t seem to read past the “going down” part. And some developer groups never get to the “going back up” part. The GPL is the heart of GNU/Linux. And to me its the one true open-source license. Its not going anywhere.
