Sony Walkman Skips Robot Right To Android

There should be an image here!Speaking as a guy who grew up with one of the original Sony Walkman cassette players in the early 80’s, I still have hopes for the Walkman brand. Even in its current version, I think that with a revamp of technology Sony can perhaps breathe in some new life to an otherwise iPod ruled concept of portable music player.

And this brings us to the rumors that Sony is looking to bring on board Google Android as the OS of choice for the Walkman line of products. Thinking about it, this makes a lot of sense as it would help put their media players in a stronger position to compete with iPod Touch like functionality.

Will this open source approach be a successful move for Sony? I think so, as everything else with the Walkman has been a bit lackluster. With any luck, adding Android and the apps that can come with it will provide more functionality from the Sony handheld.

I actually own a Walkman brand MP3 player, in my humble opinion I believe that the Walkman sounds superior to the iPod. Besides that i’m sure Sony might give it a shot because they want to really push that brand out there and make it more popular. I have high hopes for Sony and their projects.
