Are Netbook Returns An Operating System Problem?

There should be an image here!To date, the problem of netbook returns apparently remains a problem due to performance issues. And while some have pointed out that this is largely a hardware issue, some might point out that a computer is only as good as the OS it runs. For Windows users, XP might be just fine on a typical notebook. But for netbooks, at least some of them, there is speculation that the OS might be too much for it.

Going deeper into the issue, it might be less of the OS and more Microsoft’s XP settings. To be more specific, reported performance issues may have to do with XP’s disk scheduler which according to one user’s comment, cannot be turned off.

Does this mean that Linux is the better choice for netbooks? Considering that distros can be modified to reflect specific hardware need, it at the very least means that Linux is a viable option if XP is not performing at a level meeting the needs of most users. Once Windows 7 is released, we can again reevaluate this again.

I think that any Linux distro works better for a Netbook than Windows. Windows security updates and the extra security software that needs to be installed and maintained make the Netbook to tough to work with compared to the lower maintenance, safer Linux distros.

I agree with Rick. Windows is crapware IMHO. I run my eeePC 701 every day with no problems.

11+ years Windows free and LOVING IT!
