An App Store For Linux Is Old News

Sometimes the things come back full circle like they are “new and brilliant ideas” have me doubling over in laughter. No, an app store for Linux has been done many times before. Most notably, with the now defunct Lindows/Linspire Linux distro. In the era of version 4.5 - 5.0, CNR as it was called, was AWESOME and has yet to be outdone.
Despite the controversy Linspire received for things, they were at one time way ahead of the curve in software distribution. Back then, I could even setup an aisle of software in which I could then reinstall my distro and then install the exact same software with a single click. My entire suite of apps was installed automatically.
Best of all was the all inclusive updating and overall easy to follow presentation of BOTH open and closed source software. For many Linux users, this was awesome as it was about the functionality of the applications and not about some holy crusade about software licenses. Even though CNR exists today at CNR.com, it does lack the elegance and simplicty it had back in the “old days”.

A little over a year ago I was a Linux newbie getting my feet wet with a purchase of a $200 Sears/Mirus/FreeSpire computer with its built-in CNR. How things have changed.
Xandros is now in control but I’ve yet to receive any feedback support. I now intend to substitute Ubuntu for FreeSpire and would love to retain all my CNR acquired Software. Pls elaborate on your following statement so I too may save those apps for my new install.
You stated “Despite the controversy Linspire received for things, they were at one time way ahead of the curve in software distribution. I’d appreciate your “aisle of software” ‘how-to’ feedback. I’m now a Linux proselyte and spreading the word to my Windows friends, relatives and all and sundry. Can’t believe how far I’ve progressed.
