Dell Netbooks In The Land Down Under

There should be an image here!Despite being critical of Dell in the previous post, in this instance I think Dell is making some great moves for Aussie schools. At first pass, $700 might seem like a bundle to spend on a Linux powered netbook for school kids. But once you realize this is the the Aussie specs for the Latitude 2100 are different, plus the difference in the dollar, as sales tax and so forth, it soon becomes about the right price.

Unlike the US version, the Aussie Latitude 2100 is stock with a full GB of RAM instead of the lackluster 512 seen in the States. It also appears that the Aussie version has a stronger warranty as well. Americans have rely on the ever-hated depot warranty while the Aussies have next day on site assistance. Nice!

Will the Aussie Latitude 2100 do well? I think it has a solid shot, as it is clear to me that they are going to end up with a vastly superior experience to the crap we are being dealt here in the States. One area that might also be Aussie only is how tough the netbook is designed. It’s not the slimmest one on the block, but according to the above article, these netbooks can take a beating.
