Android Attacks Android Corp.

androidHonestly have mixed feelings about this article. While I understand the value of the trademark, it seems to me like someone was asleep at the wheel. First of all, I can see how the Android Data Corp. is frustrated over the entire experience, especially if they held the trademark to begin with. But if that somehow lapsed and Google has legal rights to the trademark name now, too bad I guess.

Some have equated the coming legal battle to something of a David and Goliath tale waiting to happen. I on the other hand, hear two tales of very poor choices being made on both sides.

Google should have given up on the name without falling into that inactivity nonsense. As anyone could have told them, it was a choice that later came back to bite them in the backside. On the Android Data Corp., do it or don’t. If you are serious about protecting a trademark, especially in the tech industry, you darn well better maintain some sort of a presence to help avoid this sort of issue in the future.

I can agree with that. What a ridiculous issue. Hopefully someone somewhere has some sense enough to keep it from becoming the David & Goliath story of the 21st Century.
