Presto - There Is Your Linux

prestoHonestly, speaking as someone who uses Linux every day like many of you, why in the heck do I need to care about this Instant Internet stuff? Yes, if you are stuck with older releases of Windows, boot times will make you cry. But for those using Ubuntu, the boot times are speedy enough to translate into fast desktop experience. I mean, who really is unable to wait a few seconds?

Tie this in with the SSD drives, boot times become even faster! Back on the instant  desktop front, I find myself feeling like we are looking at more of a novelty than something that is going to present any long term value.

Am I missing a bigger point in the value? Hey, if I am, feel free to hit the comments and set me straight on the matter. I mean who knows, perhaps this Presto desktop is something you use everyday and rely heavily on it?

I don’t get it.

yeah, others often marvel at my boot-time/shut-down-time…

it’s a non-issue - people should just switch… problem solved

I am using opensuse with the KDE 3.5 desktop for quite a while. at least 3 years. I was a XP user before, and i sometimes still am, but in terms of security and desktop experience i must say that linux is offering me more on the current hardware i still use.

Linux is always in development, and its getting better and better. We will have to wait till KDE 4 is really stable to use, but at least they are providing functional snapshots, so you can follow what they are doing, and might have the possibility ti change something or demand a new feature. The devs always have a listening ear.

If i look at the speed how linux works, and see the results on the latest Ubuntu i must say: Phenomenal!
20sec boot from 0 to full desktop on a single core pentium 4 2,4ghz is very good. the shutdown is even faster.

I would say, windows people, do a switch and try to create your own desktop. it might not go overnight, but at least you have more choice to put it together, the way you want it to,

but it might was handy, if you would have inserted a link, what you are reffering too? my guess is that you mean this:

I am more a kde and gnome user, and my opinion is that those two will be the best desktop enviroments for linux that offer a lot.

This just might be me…but i had linux on my computer and i found it a few months later and i had never used it…i had it in virtual PC and i nevrer found a reason to use it…so i dont think people need it.
