End Of The Microsoft Era Or The Recession?

How can a company so good at developing a market be so grossly blind to the fact that they are letting a number of micro-markets slip through their fingers? Sad, but in many ways, Microsoft’s choice in being so late to the game on the Web 2.0 front continues to cost the company dearly.
And as this article points out, as the recession here in the States roars on, using business models that worked in a better economy is not going to work for all markets. Especially Netbooks. Because eventually, Netbooks will feature Windows 7 along with the standard Linux distros, if the economy keeps going on like it has been, offering an OS without some freely bundled goodies is going to be an increasingly difficult sale.
Personally, I could not even begin to care how well or poorly Microsoft does. The company has no affect on my own livelihood and frankly, used to be a massive cause of an increasing problem with my blood pressure due to dealing with malware circa 2000-2004. Today, I have chosen to free myself and should others opt to support those less tech savvy as a business, they too, will find life to be a LOT easier.
The article paints a bleak picture for MS that I feel, is a bit of a stretch. Will MS eventually turn the Netbook market into the “powerhouse” that it did with WebTV (sarcasm)? Yes, but MS also has so many other markets that it continues to do well in that the company is hardly in financial dire straights as of now.

Heads up MS - the end is nigh.
The stuff coming down the pike is
impressive - and MS has nothing working
seriously for the future.
I feel MS has lost the sparkle especially
at the recent CES, Las Vegas.
To Intel - I suggest you carve a path to new
compute methods and allow the MS trech run
out.
