The Sun Rises On Oracle

Oracle’s database sales with Sun servers…could this actually work? Well if history has been any indication, it has done fairly well up to now. So it stands to reason that since Oracle is buying Sun out, clearly there must be a workable long term plan in place to make sure that Oracle is going to come out on top here.

What will be most interesting, is seeing just how well Oracle is able to play in the hardware world. Despite their successes in other areas, hardware and namely the server market is highly competitive to the extent that making money is becoming increasingly difficult for the newcomer. Hopefully Oracle has done their homework here to fully account for this.

So how will all of this affect Sun’s existing software efforts? Honestly, considering Oracle’s successes, I think that Oracle will only serve to improve upon these ideas and perhaps, even push them through to the next level.
