Sun Deals With An Ongoing Sunset

Seems like only yesterday that Sun Microsystems would have been a really healthy company. They made great products, the kind that businesses wanted and life was good for them up until the end of the dotCom boom. This article does a dandy job of summing up just where Sun bit the big one with regard to why they are not doing as well as they should be, economic conditions aside.
Speaking for myself, I am not really someone all that well versed on where Sun went wrong or what they did right. What I do know is this - what they are currently doing in the enterprise market place is clearly not working like it used to. So if the article linked above can help here, then I say perhaps Sun needs to consider some of those points being presented.
Overpaying for acquisitions, living like money was growing on trees, etc. Does this sound familair to any of you? Can you think of another company potentially making some of the same sort of mistakes? For my money, I cannot help but feel like Microsoft could one day find themselves in this position. Not quite as badly mind you, but hard up enough to where their monopoly alone is all that is keeping them afloat. Then again, Windows 7 could prove to be a raging success soon followed by their mobile efforts? I tend to doubt it, but we will see.
