A Radical Approach To Linux Automation

Those of us that have been using Linux for awhile are likely fairly used to working with Cron or At, for various automation tasks. And as powerful as it is, truth be told having a simple to use front end or even a Cron job alternative is where it is at.

And this brings me to an application that I am really excited about for a couple of reasons. One, its a very easy to use scheduling application for Linux users. DoThisNow is developed by a very talented developer who is practically a neighbor by location, Bryan Lunduke. I say this as he is in Everett Wa and I in Mount Vernon!

Getting back to the software, DoThisNow allows you to schedule tasks such as running a backup process or repeating specific key strokes without having to resort to setting up an all out Cron job! The software is a mere $9.95 (I purchased my copy - did you?), so I will be spending a fair part of tomorrow becoming more familiar with what I can schedule with it. And hey, for $10, how could I go wrong? Support indy developers!

And you couldn’t find something to do that on freshmeat? I saw at least 3, for $0.00

James: Fair statement. But as we all know, Linux is about choice. And rather than perpetuating the give it to me free mentality, I will offer to support my favorite software.

For FoSS apps, this is done by my donations. For closed source stuff, I will buy it if I use it. :)
