Time To Trim Some Microsoft FAT

The Linux Foundation has had enough of Microsoft and their OCS like control of every technology that they have ever touched, looked at or even conceived of using. Ever since TomTom settled suit with Microsoft over the use of patents surrounding the FAT file system, the Foundation has set its sights on finding viable alternatives to that of anything to do with Microsoft controlled technologies.
The Linux Foundation appears to believe that Microsoft can not be trusted to support open source technologies and clearly has shown their intent to attack, anything they deem is violating patents that they hold regardless of how non-competitively they are being used by other companies. To make matters worse, the patents held are based on bizarre legacy characteristics that make their use fuzzy at best. So in Microsoft’s eyes, its best to just cut them a check when in doubt.
At this stage in the game, any switch away from FAT in GPS and other like devices is not likely going to happen as the alternative has apparently, not presented itself yet in such a manner as these companies have shown an interest in trying something new. In short, the Linux Foundation seems willing to try something new, but will other industries follow?
