Slingbox SlingPlayer On Ubuntu

  • No Related Post

After having a few different people complaining how they felt like Ubuntu users “got the shaft” with regard to watching your Slingbox shows in Ubuntu, I did some digging and located a near perfect answer - running the application in WINE. Now I would suggest following these instructions very closely, as skipping a step is going to leave you ticked off and frustrated.

For those of you looking for an all Linux answer, it appears that SageTV is offering their own option that may cost more in the long run, but SageTV Placeshifter can be run off your Linux box without too much trouble. It’ just one more option to consider.

And of course, if you are a die-hard Linux user and it is free software or bust, then may I point out that MythTV has a streaming option known as MythStreamTV. It may be nearly as elegant feeling as the Slingbox option (preferred for newbies), it is available nonetheless.
