I will be honest here, I just have a hard time understanding the advantage of using a minimalist approach to writing. Still, the piece below does present an interesting argument for it.
Doing word processing without a dedicated word processor may seem like an absurd idea, but it actually makes a lot of sense, as long as you have the right set of writing tools — a solid text editor, the txt2tags utility, and Aspell spelling software.

That may be a Linux geek’s idea of minimalist. Me, I want a simple system that responds to shortcuts and doesn’t involve any command line shenanigans. Lacking that, pencil and paper will do nicely.
The best pure writing program I’ve ever seen is RoughDraft, but it won’t support hyperlinks.
