Now this is very cool! It seems that a $50 breakout box turns a GP2X game system into completely open Linux system! How’s that for innovative?
After taking an initial look at the GP2X I’m still interested in grabbing one and seeing what they can do. Imagine something like the PSP that’s completely open for homebrew and emulators, including a built-in TV-out. It also supports DivX files for video playback, making it a pretty strong media player as well. The system has been popular among the hacking and coding set for a while now, and I’m starting to think the $189.99 price tag is pretty tempting.
This product also recently came to my attention via email: it’s a breakout board that allows you to turn the GP2X into a full-fledged linux box. It includes four USB ports, RS32, Jtag, as well as audio and video out. With this bad boy the sky is the limit. Turn your GP2X into the smallest MAME cabinet in the world, or make it a portable, multiplayer emulation box and HTPC. Or you could just plug in a mouse and keyboard and make the GP2X a very tiny Linux system you can take with you…. Source: Ars
