Feeling like taking a new Beta for a spin? What if I told you it was Firefox 2.0? Yeah, thought that might get you excited…

Red Hat creates social networking site

This rocks! I am so happy to see Linux companies looking into doing more for the social space these days. With all of the flack sailing back and forth, I believe it will be social integration efforts like that of Red Hat that will end up giving up the most applause.

Negroponte’s now $130 PC due in April 2007

It needs to be said that I totally admire and respect the mission behind the $100 laptop effort. With this being said, the prototypes that I have seen must be colored in such a way as to appeal to people who don’t see very well.

BitDefender Ships Linux-Based Security Suite

One of the things that I like to hear when software is coming out of Beta are the words “rigorous testing”. And since this was with help from the users, hopefully all will go well for the new BitDefender product.

OS-level virtualizer ships with Linux for first time

This is a very smart move for Linux company, Mandriva. Not only does it allow people to have virtualization technologies built right into their OS, it does so at a level that most Linux users can wrap their minds around.

Yes, Virginia, there will be a Flash Player 9 for Linux

Get ready for the Vista/SUSE smackdown!

One word - Flash. The only distro that I have seen get Flash video and audio back in sync is Linspire. SuSE is one of my favorite distros. But with more and more importance being placed on Flash media, it will not help SuSE until they too can get this resolved.

Ubuntu to Support Sun ‘Niagara’ Platform

Oh this is a great move for Sun. Not only will it serve them well with their UltraSPARC T1 platform, it also will do wonders working with such an attractive PR move them as well.

Google Earth For Linux Soon

Favicon_Picker 0.3.0 is available for Firefox 1.5 Beta

Personally, I believe that Favicons are way overrated. They never load right and often times slow down people who do not have great system resources in the first place. Still, if this is your bag, then check them out for Firefox…

How To: Make your own DVD using Linux

To me, this just goes to prove how easy it really is to create a content DVD within the Linux operating system. Check it out for yourself….

Free Software Foundation: Free as in “do what I say”

The following article from InfoWorld is presented as is. I am not going to share my opinions on this matter as it really comes down to what you feel like the real message. Just thought I would clear that up before getting into the whole debate on the FSF front.

Bio-Metric Protected Computer on a USB Stick

Let me get this straight: We now have access to a fully functional distro of Linux, complete with biometrics, runs off of a USB stick and has Gnome as the GUI? Cool!

Yoper 3.0 Beta (Blacksand) released

Hey Yoper fans, version 3.0 Beta has been released. It’s time to warm up those test boxes and see what this latest release has to offer!

Google officially releases Picasa for Linux

I am tempted to scream “about time”, but I will refrain. Instead, I will stand back and be impressed with the fact that it’s finally here!

RubyGems

Ruby is pretty hot right now. But it’s really those “gems” that you want to be on the lookout for though. Here, check it out…

Stetic Lluis completed the work in Stetic

As with any OS, not all GUI creators are created equal. But this one described below strikes me as a lot better than most of the ones that I have used in the past.

Europe: No patents for software

Wow, now that we know that software patents are not likely to be a threat to open source software in Europe, we have to ask ourselves whether or not patents in general are about expire for good!
