Sun Debuts Eco Desktops

A small size, clever idea; but do they work as expected? I believe they will for those who need to make sure that they remain bi with regard to their OS usage.

The two machines, known as Sun Ray 2 and Sun Ray 2FS, provide “thin” clients, as opposed to full desktop PCs, or “fat” clients. They are built to be connected to a network and managed by a network administrator, like computer terminals. They consume about 4 watts of power each.

Sun licensed a protocol specification from Microsoft last year for connecting to Windows Terminal Services so the Sun Ray clients can interoperate with a Windows environment, in addition to Sun’s native Solaris operating system, via Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).

Sun, however, continues to be one of the companies pressing Microsoft to release more of its protocol specifications in Microsoft’s antitrust case in the European Union (see Microsoft to Work with EU)… Source: Red Herring
