Crash the Server and Win Beer!

  • No Related Post

Over the years, I’ve used many methods to motivate beta-testers: bonuses, threats, whips…

Whatever it took.

But, BitDefender, a security software provider headquartered in Bucharest, Romania, is trying an approach I never used: free beer.

And, we’re not talking just a six-pack of Iron City Beer, an old favorite of my college buddies at West Virginia University.

No, we’re talking 1,000 German brewskis AND and a trip to Romania, there to attend meetings with Count Dracula, the BitDefender development team, and other local luminaries.

All you have to do is be the “most thorough beta tester” of BitDefender Mail Protection for Enterprises Beta. This is the company’s upcoming anti-virus and anti-spam solution for Linux email servers.

“We thought getting him drunk would be appropriate punishment for the man,” said BitDefender Product Manager Alexandru Balan.

“On a more serious note,” Balan continued, “beta testing is an important part of what makes our products great, and we appreciate the effort of these guys in no small way.”

Hey, it beats my “beatings will continue until morale improves” approach!

BitDefender will also give out similar prizes for the first three runners-up.

In addition, a special “BitDefender Crash Test Dummy” prize and title awaits the creator of the most original way to crash the product.

I might even try for that one myself. When it comes to crashing programs in new and entertaining ways, I take second place to no one.
