Just seven per cent of companies currently without Linux servers plan to adopt Linux during the next year, compared to between 12 per cent and 17 per cent when SG Cowen began tracking in 2003. SG Cowen surveyed 500 organizations.
(Super) Computer Power
I just submitted a large job to a Linux cluster at NUS. Its quite intensive and I fully expect it to take a day or two. What I hadn’t realized, however, was the amount of output data it would generate. I’ve submitted six processes, each of them will generate a main output file of 384 MB each, plus change. Scary stuff, because I simply don’t know if I’m allowed that kind of storage. I just might get a few nasty e-mails from the administrators tomorrow. The scarier part is this program is a test run, using a relatively small initial data set. I forsee trouble. [Read the rest]
