Outlook Express vs Thunderbird: an e-mail client comparison - Part 1

We’ve put together a series of side-by-side screen shots of Outlook Express and Thunderbird as a visual comparison of these basic rival e-mail clients.

Excellent open source Outlook Express alternatives are available which provide similar and additional features. Such is the case with Mozilla’s Thunderbird, which is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux users. Moving away from Outlook Express is a no-brainer, as our screen shots illustrate. The additional features which are available in Thunderbird are not shown in this comparison.

This is the first of a two-part e-mail client comparison. In Part 1 our comparison is based on default installations of Outlook Express 6.0 and Thunderbird 1.0. In our upcoming Part 2 we will compare Outlook, Evolution and Kontact. Also see our visual comparison of Windows and Linux.

Keep in mind that this a only a basic visual comparison of these two email clients. For more comparisons of open source and proprietary desktop software.
