Yup, this news about China’s biggest bank moving over to Linux is likely to be one of the biggest ’switch ads’ you will see in this life time! Being the bank is working at transitioning some 20,000 national branches over to the Linux OS, I’d say their IT team has their work cut out for [...]

The OSSwin project: Open Source for Windows!

Hey, just because you are a happy Windows user does not mean that Open Source is not for you. Take the OSSwin project for instance. I feel that this is a great example of just how many OSS apps there truly are for the ‘other’ OS.

The Perfect Setup - Debian Woody (3.0)

Here is one interpretation of the perfect Linux setup. Definitely differs a bit from mine, I can see how they might decide that this is the way to go.

Defense Department signs Red Hat deal

To me, this speaks volumes of Linux as a choice for government agencies. If Red Hat is good enough for the US DOD, then I think it is definitely good enough for the rest of us as well.

Yellow Dog Linux goes 64-bit

Well I’ll be dog, er, I mean darn. Yellow Dog Linux has gone 64 bit on us! This will prove to be really cool once the onslaught of apps requiring a 64 bit platform start flooding the Open Source world.

Do Firefox browser bugs matter?

This is an interesting thought. Do Open Source bugs really matter all that much? While they seem of little importance to the devs being that anyone can come along and fix them if they so choose, I think it matters to the end user. Still, I do see the point that this article tries to [...]

Upgrading Slackware? No Sweat with QtSwaret!

While it’s important to stick with a given distribution’s packages, that doesn’t mean you have to be trapped by their package manager. Slackware’s package manager, for example, is rather simple and lacks a lot of functionality. That’s what led me to seek out packages such as Slackcurrent and its GUI front end KSlackCheck. Today, however, [...]
