Mozilla Putting Firefox, Thunderbird Front and Center

Well ever since Firefox seems to have their PDF bug taken care of, the Mozilla foundation has opted for putting their efforts into Firefox and Thunderbird fulltime. This really makes sense with the possibility of Netscape wars part two coming about soon thanks to the eventual release of the new IE7. It will be interesting to see who is left standing when that cloud of virtual smoke clears, that is for sure.

With a new and improved Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Latest News about Microsoft Internet Explorer looming, the Mozilla Foundation Latest News about Mozilla Foundation said late last week that it is shifting its focus completely to its popular Web browser and e-mail applications.

In a letter posted on Thursday on its Web site Get a Free E-Commerce Start-up Kit from Verisign, Mozilla announced its intent to pull the development plug on the integrated Mozilla Application Suite, a.k.a. Seamonkey, and focus entirely on a new generation of applications — namely its Firefox and Thunderbird software. Mozilla reiterated Firefox and Thunderbird have been the organization’s priorities since 2003.

“The 1.7.x line will be the last set of Seamonkey products released and maintained by the Mozilla Foundation,” the company stated. “The Mozilla Foundation will provide infrastructure Save up to $189 on the HP ProLiant ML110 server. for those interested in working on the 1.7.x releases, which we expect will include a number of vendors who provide these products to their customers.”
