I Just Love Mepis!

OK, I’ll admit it. I am hopelessly hooked on Linux. After falling in love with Xandros for the fact that it just works, I wanted to look into other distributions. Here recently, I decided to give Simply Mepis a very serious look. Besides the fact that it is both a live CD and capable of a full install, I was blown away at the software they so thoughtfully included! While I am still very much an Xandros user on my laptop, Mepis has found a home on my desktop PC at home.

No show today, folks. Brandon had some stuff come up and so I decided that we will be waiting till next week to put together our next show. This gives me an opportunity to recover from my three-day crash course in Linux. Yes, I have not slept much as I discovered just how amazing Simply Mepis really is. Someone that reads my work often enough suggested it to me and I must say, it is like having a Mac without the price tag.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Xandros and all. But this has all the latest apps, it’s faster, smoother, and it literally has magical powers (nearly). I am using all sorts of awesome apps that really should have been included with Xandros like aKregator (the closest thing to FeedDemon you will see in or out of Linux), and browser plugins already installed (Java, etc.) and they even have a plug-n-play solution for iPod/iTunes users.

This is the closest thing to a Windows killer I have ever seen outside of the Mac, no joke. Auto mount and run for your iPod with no extra software to install? Windows has its work cut out for it, let me tell ya!
