Knowing Knoppix - Free 128-page book in PDF

Knoppix is an astoundingly clever product. It runs Linux completely from CD. There is no need to install. It bypasses all the software already installed on your PC or laptop. It automatically detects the hardware in your computer, such as video card, sound card, networking, the lot (subject to suitable hardware). When you’ve finished using Knoppix, simply restart. Your computer will return to your regular system, and it will behave as if nothing has happened. Knoppix is Free Software and open source under the terms of the GNU General Public Licence (GPL).

Knowing Knoppix is a beginner-friendly book designed to help with these situations:

* You can’t start Windows! Disaster? Possibly not. It is often possible to rescue files using Knoppix from crashed Windows computers, even when Windows cannot be started. This guide takes you step by step through the process.
* You are curious about Linux, and you want to discover what all the fuss is about.
* You want a useful guide to help you get started with Knoppix.

thank you i will start to try linux instead of windows XP

A little outdated but good enough to get anyone started.

Perhaps an updated guide is in order. Although there are enough books now available for linux now than there was 4 years ago.

I’m sure a LOT more people now are playing with linux. There’s a lawyers convention debating the GPL licence Sept 2008. This might be the start of the end for low cost open source software.

Computer software and rules moves at breakneck speed, don’t be surprised if today you can download all of the linux software you want and tomorrow it get’s a complete shut down from any network access.

Yep, you heard me the U.S. government at one point wanted to shut down the internet. WHY? Because too many people are sharing too much software and so much of it is available. It would be easier to start new than to try to circumvent what’s already occurring.
