For those of you who use MPlayer or have been thinking about it, now may be a good time to upgrade: version 1.0pre6 has just been released, and contains a whole slew of new updates and upgrades, including the 1.0pre5try2 bugfixes that resolved a few security vulnerabilities.
They claim to have made improvements in documentation, particularly where the options are concerned, and I certainly hope this is the case. Documentation has been the project’s weak point (IMHO) for some time, and I’ve often had to turn to third-party resources just to install the package and resolve problems.
Other improvements include increased driver support, support for 64-bit x86 processors, and a slew of new codecs including (at last!) Windows Media 9 codecs. There’s quite a bit more if you check out the news page. Looks like I have an upgrade project this evening.
