Mail Filtering with Exim

  • No Related Post

I recently wrote an article for Ping! Zine Webhosting Magazine about configuring the Exim mail server to block spam and viruses. While FreeBSD is the focus of the article, the Exim configuration is portable across multiple platforms (such as Linux, of course), and I encourage anyone out there running a mail server to give it a read. It was published this month.

I’m not sure if Ping! Zine is available on newsstands, but free subscriptions can be requested via their website. The configuration I discuss uses Exim with the Exiscan-ACL patch, ClamAV, and SpamAssassin. For our ISP, the results have been tremendous, and the software’s all free. Even if you’re using other packages as your main mail server, my instructions cover setting the Exim box as a mail gateway that will pass clean mail on to your main server.

Update 12/2/04: I’ve just found out that subscriptions won’t get you the current issue. If you’re looking for a decent webhosting mag, then by all means, subscribe. But if you want my article or anything else from the current issue, it appears you’re going to need to order it separately. Sorry about any inconvenience this may have caused anyone. Incidentally, once the contract rights revert to me, I’ll probably post the article on my website. I’ll post another notice at that time.
