In response to Tweak Your Login Greetings, Gnomie Ernest N. Wilcox, Jr. writes:
If the system uses KDE, there is a login manager utility in KCC / system.
I use Mandrakelinux, and the KDE login manager utility permits me to select
from any of several GUI styles, color schemes, and even choose between one and three
star echo modes. In addition, you can choose a graphic logo to display, no
logo, or a clock, and you can choose where on the screen the login dialog
appears. These are the features available on the Appearance tab. There are
also Font, Background, Shutdown, Users, and Convenience tabs. In these tabs,
you can select the text font, Background image, or color and display mode, who
can shut down the system both locally and remotely - defaults are anybody
locally, and root remotely, which users are displayed in the login screen, and
even specify a user, and set focus on the password field, or allow autologin
(I do NOT recommend using this feature!) to a specific user account. This
utility only works with KDM, the KDE display manager, so if the system uses
another display manager, or no GUI at all, this information is mute. For those who use KDE, and the KDM display manager, here is yet another way
to make your Linux system truly your own.
