Firefox 1.0 - Designed to establish a choice for the Internet

Even with Firefox setting servers ablaze with impressive download numbers, the target remains about choice, not dominance. I believe that Mozilla’s Bart Decrem, understands that while Firefox is becoming a top browser among the computer savvy, there is still those out there that are quite content to blindly use what already comes on their default Windows installations.

Why change it what works, right? It is an unfortunate reality that while IE is stale and unchanged that it borders on a poorly made B movie, Firefox will never see the light of those PCs that need it most. It’s true, the people that really need this browser are just not interested in taking the time to bother with the switch.

Mozilla will today launch the nearly-final version of Firefox, its open source web browser, ahead of the 1.0 product launch on 9 November. The organisation says it aiming for 10 million downloads in the 100 days after inauguration, sparking much discussion of a return to the days of the browser wars, when Microsoft, AOL and Netscape battled for market share.

Bart Decrem, spokesman for Mozilla, was in London last Friday to promote the browser. He noted: “When you look at how many people are downloading Firefox already, the 10m downloads target starts to feel very safe.”
