Red Hat Facing Harsh Competition

Since being acquired by software giant Novell earlier this year, SuSE Linux has been increasing pressure on Red Hat. Sun Microsystems was once written off. Now they are a foreseeable challenge. Most of all, Microsoft would like to see the end of them and those like them.

“It’s fighting time,” says Matthew Szulik, Red Hat’s chief Executive. For years, the company struggled selling operating systems that could otherwise be downloaded freely over the Internet. It has finally proven to be fruitful with Red Hat showing their first annual profit this last fiscal year. The achievement has also brought attention from rivals SuSE, Sun Microsystems, and Microsoft.
