Denmark Takes Tux to the Bank

  • No Related Post

The Danish Ministry of Finance recently made the move to Open Source by implementing the JBoss Application Server on a Red Hat system. The package will coordinate the distribution of financial information between the Ministry and 400 banks by taking data from outside sources (SAP, etc.) and converting them to XML for sharing replication.

This says a lot about the security of Open Source, as this is obviously a mission-critical application that will need to be consistently available and maintain data integrity at all times.

The system beat out a previously-used SQL-based solution due to SQL’s sensitivity to patches and its difficulty to maintain.
