UserLinux Releases First Beta

DesktopLinux reports the Bruce Perens-led UserLinux project has just released its first beta CD. The DesktopLinux link includes a screenshot and a brief overview of the project.

Per the UserLinux Mission Statement, the idea behind UserLinux is to “Provide businesses with freely available, high quality Linux operating systems accompanied by certifications, service, and support options designed to encourage productivity and security while reducing overall costs.” In other words, I suspect Mr. Perens intends to keep free (as in speech) software truly free (as in beer).

The Debian-based download CD is available now. It’s a small download, which then fetches the remainder of the system from the Internet. If you’re the screenshot-loving type, check out this page. If you’d like to get on with the download, then you’ll want to start here.
