Dodging Bullets to Meet Tux

Literally. The Linux Users Group of Iraq recently held its first Linux installfest despite the combined chaos of final exams at the university and firefights in the streets around them.

It’s often been said that Linux is perfect for developing countries thanks to its Open Source nature, and the war-damaged economy of Iraq is certainly no exception. I hope Hasson will continue to share reports of Linux development in Iraq to show this is the case. It would be a great case study to see businesses saving money in rebuilding by using Linux to replace damaged or destroyed systems, or to build a network for the Al-Nahrain University (who hosted the installfest) that includes an email system for faculty, staff and students.
