Spammers use sender authentication too, study says

Legitimate email senders are not the only ones that are using the new “sender ID” for email. According to Computer World, spammers are actually more on the ball about using the authentication than legitimate email users.

A check of approximately 2 million e-mail messages sent to CipherTrust customers between May and July showed that only about 5% of all incoming messages came from domains that published a valid sender authentication record using the Sender Policy Framework (SPF) or a newer standard backed by Microsoft called Sender ID. Within that 5%, slightly more is spam than is legitimate e-mail, said Paul Judge, chief technology officer at the Alpharetta, Ga.-based company.

It’s a shame that our government just sits idly by as hackers, phishers, and other internet thieves including spammers go about their merry way stealing money, property and identity from innocent people. What they did was to legalize it by poor restrictions and enforcement with the so called Can-Spam laws that are not only toothless, but a waste of taxpayers dollars.
I agree that the government should stay out of the internet business, however, they do need to instill some good solid laws to put an end to all this internet criminal trash. But then again, they are getting their palms greased by the internet marketers associations which brings another point, the marketers lobbyist. Until we can stop these lobbyist from buying off our politicians, the future looks bleak in America.
