WordPerfect to Return to Linux?

  • No Related Post

I was once a big fan of Corel WordPerfect, and very much preferred it over Microsoft Word. In fact, before I discovered the glory that is OpenOffice.org, the availability of WordPerfect for Linux was one of the selling points for me in evaluating Linux on the desktop.

Support for WP on Linux soon disappeared, though it can still be found online if you look hard enough, and a CD of the software can be ordered at Linux Central. Unfortunately the last available version was version 8, so if you’re looking for the latest features, you’ll be missing out.

It looks like that may change soon. Corel is evaluating the Linux market, and if there’s demand they just may bring back the Linux version. I think this is a great idea, as many enterprises who are using Corel products will find one less obstacle to a Linux migration, or at least provide an incentive into evaluating a Linux migration.
