Courier-IMAP Login Debugging Format String Vulnerability

Solution Status: Vendor Patch. A vulnerability has been reported in Courier-IMAP (also included in Courier Mail Server), which potentially can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a format string error within the “auth_debug()” function used for login debugging.

Successful exploitation requires that login debugging is enabled (not default setting).

The vulnerability has been reported in versions 1.6.0 through 2.2.1. Other versions may also be affected.

NOTE: This advisory has been rated “Less critical” as debugging never should be enabled on production systems.

Solution: Update to Courier-IMAP version 3.0.7 or set “DEBUG_LOGIN” to “0″ in the configuration file. Debugging should never be enabled on production systems.”
