Just two days after Johann De Freitas reported on a 30GB mobile device preloaded with Linux comes news of an even bigger drive from the same vendor, LaCie. They’ve announced a 40GB Globe Trotter drive.
The GlobeTrotter is LaCie’s latest external hard drive, with a USB connection and 40 GB of storage on board. What makes this drive different, however, is the fact that it comes with a pre-installed version of MandrakeSoft’s Mandrakelinux 10.0. What’s more, the device can be plugged into any machine with a USB socket so the computer can be used as a Linux machine. No installation is required, as everything is done using the external hard drive.
The GlobeTrotter costs US$219 and comes with 30 days of free Web support from Mandrake and software, including OpenOffice, KDE Kontact, and Novell Evolution.
