Xandros May Induce ‘CrossOver’
“The newest version of Xandros Desktop, the Linux desktop that focuses heavily on ease of use and deployment and provides a Windows-like interface, is hardly even an upgrade, with one new feature and mainly bug fixes that make it more like a patch than an upgrade.
With the inclusion of CrossOver Office 3.01, Xandros Desktop users can run many more Windows applications on the Linux desktop, including Microsoft’s Outlook XP and Project and IBM’s Lotus Notes 6.5.1. I also liked that, with this version, I could load Windows-only plug-ins for my Linux-based Mozilla browser.”
I installed CrossOver Office 3.01 and find it much better than 3.00, but that was with Knoppix. Xandros is a really nice distro with great hardware support and very easy to use. If your looking to migrate from Windows to Linux, get yourself a copy of Xandros. It’s only $49.00 without CrossOver and $89.00 with CrossOver.

I have tried Kubuntu, Suise, Knoppf (sp?) BUT the new Xandros was the easiest, cleanest transition I had. Well worth the price. Kubuntu was a distant second in ease.

I took the Xandros jump too and I am not dissapointed. Although a commercail distro, the ease of use makes the transition from windows for us non-geeks, worth the meager cost (compared to Vista). My experience with CrossOver is mixed. It claims to support Quicken 7 but I couldn’t figure out a way to get my data into linux. The program did come over but without the data to date? I emailed it to myself and that didn’t work. Anyone have any ideas?
