AMD/OSDL

OSDL - AMD Joins OSDL

The last time Intel blinked, providing us a 64 bit chip that would only run 64 bit applications, AMD saw their chance and introduced a 64 bit chip that ran both 32 bit and 64 bit apps. Of course many people with a computer full of 32 bit apps but wanting to move to 64 bit went with AMD over Intel.
Now AMD has again shown some forward thinking by joining up with the Open Source Development Labs to participate in OSDL’s Data Center Linux and Carrier Grade Linux working groups. OK, maybe that doesn’t mean much to you and me, but I take it as a sign that AMD is serious about supporting the Linux community. I, for one, will be thinking about that the next time I’m considering a CPU upgrade. My long love affair with P4 chips may be coming to an end.

What Do You Think?
