Linux may infringe on 283 patents

In a story that relates to the article; “The SCO ripple effect“, ComputerWorld is reporting that Linux allegedly violates some 283 registered software patents. They go on to say that there is the possibility that 27 of these are owned by Microsoft. While I seriously doubt that Linux is actually violating any patents whatsoever, it is always a little scary to see Tux come under attack like this when big money is behind the push for these types of accusations.

That fake Microsoft patent thing is a poison pill for journalists, and their editors. PCWorld editor has quit, and we applaud his ethics. PCWorld is dead in our eyes, a mere pawn of MS.
In fact, the entire ‘coddle the advertiser to collect the money to stay afloat’ thing, actually kills readership. Bankruptcy is the result.
Everyone whom I know on 5 continents has dropped dead tree publications that promote Microsoft’s FUD ad campaign. We have all blocked web mags with similar FUD, also.
Don’t mess with the customer, and the majority of subscribers are computer Geeks, or wannabes. Can you spell ’shrinking readership’?
Microsoft dare not let us see the huge amount of stolen Linux code embedded in NT, 2000, XP, and Vista. In fact, MS must be quaking over the Novell ownership of Unix, who did not get paid under the SCO agreement, possibly making Microsoft for $16Million (and SUN, for $10Million!) liable!
It is explained best over on Groklaw.
