Slackware Utilities

To round out the Slackware notes I posted the last two days, I thought I’d wrap with two more utilities that help make running Slackware a little easier.
First we have SWareT, the Slackware Tool. This script helps keep your system up to date buy downloading and installing new packages, patches, sources and libraries similar to the way FreeBSD updates its ports and sources collection via CVS. Simply run it periodically or when there are new updates you know you’ll need, and your system will never fall behind.
Second, there’s slapt-get, available at http://software.jaos.org (scroll down a bit). As the name suggests, it’s similar to Debian’s APT manager, only designed for Slackware package management. Scroll down a little further, and you’ll see the author is working on GSlapt, a GNOME/GTK front end for slapt-get. Very nice.
