Webcams on Linux

If you’re looking to hook a webcam to your Linux box, all is not lost. The following sites contain drivers for specific cameras and plenty of information to get you up and running:

Philips chipset USB cameras (including Logitech and Creative Labs models)
Logitech QuickCam Express
CPiA chip cameras

If you already have a camera and it’s not listed in or supported by the above projects, then check out the Linux USB Devices page for video devices: http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdevcat.php?id=9

If your camera’s still not listed, you may be able to turn up more info with some good Googling. If you have coding skills, you may even be able to write your own drivers and contribute back to the kernel or one of the projects above. If not, well, there’s always eBay
