Not a Single Gnome had Written Me

  • No Related Post

Boy, I was sitting around last week wondering why not a single
Gnomie had written me. Once “She who is already embarassed and so
will not be named” realized that the newsletter hadn’t gone out, I
definitely felt better! I even knew the moment it went out.
Suddenly I had 10 messages from Gnomies. Life was good again.

Then, a project some co-authors and I are working on (see “Looking
for Your Linux Annoyances” below) got Slashdotted overnight and I
woke up to find a frightening amount of e-mail to sort through!
This was good, mind you, but made for a frazzling day.

Looking for Your Linux Annoyances

Most Linux users, whether new or experienced, have annoying
experiences along the way to enlightenment. A trio of authors
(including moi) is looking for your biggest Linux
annoyances. Whether you have a solution in mind or not, join the
list at http://www.dee-annleblanc.com/mailman/listinfo/annoyances/ and share your
troubles.

Lockergnome Swag

Chris Pirillo, Bryan Hoff, and I had a bit
of fun this week getting something new set up in the last week.
Check out the new Penguin Shell swag
store
. I had some odd ideas about logos, Bryan made them
happen, Chris cringed and made us change things, and so on.

On the really fun front, though, is the substore inside the store.
If you follow tech news at all you know that a certain company
with the letters S-C-O in its name has become a massive nuisance
to the Linux community, and now a lot of other people too. We did
up some gear and bumper stickers and stuff to help folks make
their feelings clear on the subject. Part of the proceeds from
this subshop’s sales go to the Open Source Now Fund, which exists
to help people, organizations, and companies that this nuisance
tries to haul into court.

We also had these wallpapers made. To download
the set
(for multiple resolutions), click the above thumbnail.

As always, we’re interested to hear your thoughts on this. Is it
just too goofy? Did we leave something out? Any special requests?

Digitally Yours,
