Eating, breathing, and sleeping Linux

I’m knee-deep in updating one of my books for its next edition
(phew!), and working on a few others as well. I feel like I’m
eating, breathing, and sleeping Linux right now. Any moment I’m
going to get a craving for herring and swimming in icy water…
then I’ll know I’m done for!
Right now I’ve got a distribution beta installed on my laptop,
Mandrake 9.1 on my test box, and I am using the SuSE 8.2 live
evaluation on the test box as well … sometimes there just aren’t
enough computers.
Regarding compiling software with make, Jose writes:
“In your article ‘Compiling Software from Source,’ you could add
that instead of using make install you could use a very nice app
called Checkinstall. The URL is http://asic-linux.com.mx/~izto/checkinstall/.
“It will create a package for you, either .rpm, .deb or .tqz. You
can use the created package in later installations. It takes the
guesswork out of creating packages. I run both Slackware and
Debian servers and use this app to create packages for my servers
and for others to use as well.”
Thanks, Jose!
