I’ll be quick with you today. I have a couple of items from readers that I thought I’d share with you.
First, this from Jeff Smith:
This is kind of funny.. a site is saying how much open source sucks and
stuff.. when they are actually running open source software.http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?mode_u=on&mode_w=on&site=www.adti.net
notice the OpenSSL
This link is to the uptime statistics for the Alexis deTocqueville Institute, mentioned earlier in Penguin Shell for its scathing and erroneous indictment of open source. It is funny, indeed, but it comes as no surprise. I think I have an apt analogy. Everyone loves to hate attorneys, too. Every attorney but their own, that is.
Speaking of the now infamous AdTI Open Source Whitepaper, reader Will Shattuck sent me the following link:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/25659.html
It’s a link to one of my favorite morning reads, The Register. Though I greatly enjoy reading The Register, I do take some of what they print with a grain of salt. This article, though, tears apart the AdTI paper, shred by shred. Frankly, it’s one of those articles I wish I’d written myself. In the end, there should be no doubt about the fact that the AdTI whitepaper can now be officially used for purposes other than information. Paper training and bird cages come to mind.
Have a great Tuesday.
