Let’s take a look at what’s coming up in Penguin Shell.

First, we’re going to jump back into kernel configuration next week. Of all the series suggestions you made, kernel configuration was far and away the most popular. You can find the first kernel series in the GnomeCORE GnomeTome. We won’t review much from that one, opting instead to expand on it and extend the knowledge. If you missed that one, the $5.00 might be worth your while to catch up.

Since we looked into KDE this week, we’ll take a look this week at Gnome 2.0. Several “snapshot” versions have been released - certainly enough to garner some indication of where Gnome is headed. If all goes as planned, we may be looking at the full-blown release version. It’s scheduled for release tomorrow (June 21), though there’s been a history of delays for Gnome 2.0. Either way, we’ll spend some time with it this week.

We’re also going to look into how the solutions you presented for Mark Petryk, Aaron Potts, Klent Harkness, and Rob Purcell worked out. I’ll repost the problems along with the email that provided a solution. I’ve corresponded with a couple of these folks and know that their problems were, indeed, solved by your input. “What a great community … ” was the comment of one. I agree wholeheartedly.

We are nearing the end of the limited-time pricing on the Penguin Shell GnomeTomes. If you haven’t stepped out to the site, now’s your chance to download them. If you didn’t know, they come in 6 formats, including .pdf, .pdb, and .doc. That means you can view them on any platform, stuff ‘em in your palm, or print ‘em nicely for posterity. A personal thanks is in order for the respose so far - I’d just hate to see you miss the 2/$10.00 pricing.

That’s it for another Thursday. I hope yours was as good as mine, and I’ll see you somwhere around here tomorrow.
