Sometimes a pleasurable experience comes at the most unexpected time.
Take, for instance, the security audit of Libranet I performed last night. You’ll recall how this process went with our previous Distro II contender, ELX. We found many, many holes. So many, in fact, that I’d be hard pressed to recommend it to a new Linux user, despite it’s other fine features. Security is important, right?
Apparently, the folks at Libranet think so also. With as identical a setup as is possible, Libranet passed the Nessus audit without so much as a hiccup. After 35 minutes of churning through many, many known configuration-related security issues, Nessus found 0 holes, 3 warnings and 3 notes. Need I say more? A default installation that offers this level of security is, indeed, a pleasurable experience.
So, the running tally for the Libranet review is:
Installation [50 possible] - 40
Security [5 possible] - 5
I do need to clean up a few details from the week thus far. I received an email this morning from Steve Baker, the author of yesterday’s GnomeCLICK. It seems that I’d found, in his words, “an *ancient* version” of his site, A Complete History of Tux - So Far. This new link points to the revision. It’s cleaner and even better reading than the first.
I also committed the cardinal sin yesterday - I forgot to check links before I posted. That can really come back to haunt you, especially if the two bad links are a) to your own personal font and b) a bad mailto to yourself. Ironic, huh. So, if you’re still interested in the Tony Steidler-Dennison font, you can find it here. And if you want to comment on the bizarre nature of my handwriting, feel free.
